Name the Ghost that raised your Guardian: canon-style names like Sagira, Glint and Sundance alongside hundreds of original options, from star names and old scientists to snack names and dry Hunter nicknames.

About Destiny Ghost names

In Destiny lore a Ghost is born from the Traveler without a name and is usually christened by the Guardian it revives, which is why canon Ghost names are so varied: Osiris's Sagira, Cayde-6's Sundance, Saint-14's Geppetto, Zavala's Targe, Ikora's Ophiuchus, Ana Bray's Jinju, Crow's Glint, and the infamous Pulled Pork. Some are mythic, some are gentle, some are jokes that stuck. The player's own Ghost never gets a proper name and goes by Little Light in the lore, which tells you how loose the convention is.

Because the Ghost is a small floating companion that talks constantly, the names that fit best are short and affectionate. Star and constellation names (Vega, Altair, Cassiopeia) suit a Warlock's Ghost; old astronomers and engineers (Kepler, Tesla, Hypatia) fit one that lectures; sturdy one-word names like Bastion or Sentinel suit a Titan's; and Hunters tend toward snacks, nicknames and dry jokes such as Biscuit, Wingman or Plan B.

The list mixes recognizable canon names with original ones written in the same spirit, so you can pick something for a roleplay character, a fan fiction Ghost, or just the voice in your ear on patrol.

How to choose Destiny Ghost names

  • Match the Ghost to the Guardian: a scholarly Warlock might name theirs Hypatia or Kepler, a Titan goes with Bastion or Aegis, and a Hunter lands on Biscuit or Plan B.
  • Keep it short. Ghosts are addressed mid-fight, so one or two syllables (Glint, Pip, Nova) sound more natural than a long title.
  • Light and star names (Lumen, Ember, Vega, Polaris) are the most lore-friendly choice since every Ghost is a fragment of the Traveler.
  • If you want a name with a story, pick one that references the place your Guardian was revived, such as Cosmodrome Stray or Ishtar.
  • Avoid reusing a famous canon Ghost name like Sagira for your own character unless you are writing that character; original names in the same style read better in fan fiction.

Frequently asked questions

What are the canon Ghost names in Destiny?

Named Ghosts include Sagira (Osiris), Sundance (Cayde-6), Geppetto (Saint-14), Targe (Zavala), Ophiuchus (Ikora Rey), Jinju (Ana Bray), Glint (Crow), Brya (Eris Morn), Fynch, and Pulled Pork. The player's Ghost is unnamed and nicknamed Little Light.

Do Ghosts choose their own names?

Usually not. In lore the Guardian names the Ghost after being revived, though a few Ghosts pick names for themselves while searching for their Guardian. That is why names range from mythic to silly.

Can I rename my Ghost in Destiny 2?

No, the game does not let you name your Ghost; you can only change its shell and mods. Ghost names are for roleplay, fan fiction, clan lore and character sheets.

What style of name fits a Ghost best?

Short, warm, and a little whimsical. Light and star names, old scientists, small objects and affectionate nicknames all fit the tone Bungie set with Sundance, Glint and Geppetto.
