Conan Name Generator

Robert E. Howard built the Hyborian Age out of real history rearranged. Every nation in the Conan stories is a mask over an actual culture, and its names follow suit. Cimmerians like Conan and Crom carry Gaelic and ancient Celtic sounds; the Aesir and Vanir (Niord, Gorm, Wulfhere) are Norse; Aquilonia and Nemedia use Latin and medieval French names such as Prospero, Trocero, Pallantides, and Amalric; Stygia is Egyptian, giving Thoth-Amon, Thutothmes, and Ctesphon; Turan and Hyrkania are Turkic and Persian (Yezdigerd, Yildiz, Kerim Shah); Shem is Mesopotamian and Semitic (Bêlit, Nabonidus); Zingara is Spanish (Zarono, Valenso); Vendhya is Indian (Yasmina Devi); and the Picts take short, tribal, totem-based names like Zogar Sag.

This is why Conan names feel grounded rather than generic. A good one signals where the character comes from before they say a word, and Howard rarely wasted a syllable: most personal names are two or three syllables, sometimes followed by a homeland ('of Poitain') or a role ('the Red Priest'). Ornate epithets belong to sorcerers and kings, not to Cimmerian hillmen.

The list groups names by Hyborian nation, mixing canonical characters from the stories and films with original names built on the same linguistic models, so a game master can populate a whole tavern in Shadizar or a whole crew on the Black Coast.
