Sorcerer Name Generator

A sorcerer differs from a wizard in most fantasy settings, and the name should reflect it. Wizards study; sorcerers are born with power in their blood, whether from a dragon ancestor, a fey bargain three generations back, or a storm that struck the family tree. That is why sorcerer names tend to feel warmer and more inherited than wizard names: an ordinary family surname with a hint of the source of magic (Vaelin Emberscale, Oberon Thistlewood, Kaos Riftwalker), rather than a scholarly title. In D&D 5e the sorcerer's subclass is literally called an "origin," so a good sorcerer name often points at that origin without spelling it out.

The historical vocabulary of sorcery leans on Persian, Arabic, and Greek roots ("magi" were Persian priests; the Greek "pharmakeia" gave us the classical sorcerer), which is why names like Farhad Anvari, Zoraida al-Rashid, and Nikolaos Vryzas sound right for a court sorcerer. Fantasy fiction added Old English and Welsh mages (Merlin Ambrosius, Ged of Gont, Belgarath) and, later, dragon-blooded and celestial names built from words like Ember, Star, Void, and Wyrm.
