Generate bronze dragon names with the rolling, storm-and-surf sound of D&D's coastal metallic dragons: long Draconic true names like Thalassarax and Galadaeros, mariner epithets like the Tidecaller, humble sailor aliases, and a nod to the bronze dragonflight of Warcraft. Ideal for DMs, novelists and worldbuilders.

About bronze dragon names

Bronze dragons are the sailors among D&D's metallic dragons: lawful good, drawn to coasts and shipping lanes, and fond of shapeshifting into dolphins, gulls or grizzled harbor folk to watch over the fleets they protect. Published bronzes include Galadaeros, Felgolos the Flying Misfortune, and Nymmurh, while Dragonlance gives us Khirsah, called Fireflash, along with Razor and Clarion. Their true names are long and Draconic, three to five syllables, but a good bronze name has more wind and water in it than a gold: rolling consonants, a touch of brass, endings like -ax, -aeros, -oth and -vane rather than the harsh stops of a blue or red.

Because bronzes spend so much time among mortals, they collect second names. Sailors know them by epithets tied to sea and storm, such as the Tidecaller, Reefkeeper or Wreckbane, and many keep a plain alias for dockside life: Old Salt Merrin, Harbormaster Eadric Coil, or simply the grey osprey that always seems to be watching the harbor mouth. Wyrmlings carry short, bright names like Skerry or Spindrift until they earn something grander.

If your table leans toward Warcraft, the bronze dragonflight has its own rule: males end in -dormu and females in -dormi, after Nozdormu and Soridormi. A handful of those sit alongside the Draconic names so you can match whichever setting you run.

How to choose bronze dragon names

  • Keep the true name long and liquid, with open vowels and a rolling ending (-ax, -aeros, -oth, -ith); clipped or guttural names like Klauth read as chromatic.
  • Pick an epithet that says what the dragon does for the coast, such as Reefkeeper, Stormwarden or Corsairbane, since bronzes think of themselves as guardians of sailors rather than hoarders.
  • Give every bronze a mortal alias and a favorite animal shape; a dragon known in town as Skipper Tobias Wren who is also the harbor's oldest grey seal makes for a memorable reveal.
  • Use short, salty names for wyrmlings (Skerry, Halyard, Brineflick) and let the name grow with the dragon's age category.
  • For Warcraft campaigns, follow the -dormu (male) and -dormi (female) convention and give the dragon a humanoid name like Chromie for its gnome or high-elf form.

Frequently asked questions

What are some canon bronze dragon names?

In the Forgotten Realms, Galadaeros, Felgolos and Nymmurh are bronze dragons. Dragonlance has Khirsah (Fireflash), Razor and Clarion. In World of Warcraft the bronze dragonflight includes Nozdormu, Soridormi, Anachronos, Chromie (Chronormu), Kairozdormu and Zidormi.

How is a bronze dragon name different from a gold or silver one?

All metallic names are long and Draconic, but bronze names lean toward the sea: more rolling r's and th's, endings like -aeros and -vane, and epithets about tides, storms and ships. Golds sound like sunlight and polished metal (Aurinax), silvers are cooler and airier, while bronzes sound like surf on brass.

What do bronze dragons call themselves when they shapeshift?

Bronzes love coastal life and usually take an unremarkable seafaring alias such as Old Salt Merrin, Dockmaster Annis Brightwater or Captain Brannoc Tidewell, or no name at all when they travel as a dolphin, seal, gull or osprey. The alias hides the dragon and lets it keep watch over the harbor.

Can I use these bronze dragon names in my campaign or book?

The invented names are free for personal and commercial use. Canon dragons such as Galadaeros, Felgolos and Nozdormu belong to Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard; they are listed for reference and are fine at your table but not in published fiction.
