Batman Name Generator

Batman names follow a few rules that have held since 1939. The hero's alias is a single nocturnal creature turned into a title: Batman, Batgirl, Batwoman, and by extension Nightwing, Red Hood and Huntress. Bob Kane and Bill Finger borrowed the idea from pulp heroes like the Shadow and Zorro, so a good original Batman-style name is short, dark and animal- or night-based, often with the definite article (the Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader) and usually without the word super. Sidekicks get bird names (Robin, Nightwing, Red Robin, Bluebird), which is why Kestrel, Starling and Jackdaw sound like they belong in the Batcave.

The rogues are the opposite: a mundane object, trade or phobia pushed to an extreme, as in the Penguin, the Riddler, the Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Calendar Man and Kite Man. Civilian identities carry old East Coast money, so Bruce Wayne, Kate Kane and Thomas Elliot are joined here by Alistair Crane, Montgomery Kane and Cordelia Thorne, while GCPD names lean Irish, Italian and Eastern European in the pulp tradition.

The list mixes canon Bat-family members, allies and villains with original cowled aliases, Robin-style codenames, Gotham civilians, Batman Incorporated and Dark Multiverse variants, and GCPD officers, so you can name a whole Gotham or just one new vigilante.
