Alpha Name Generator

An alpha name has to sound like it belongs to the animal the rest of the pack defers to, so the strongest ones are short, heavy and hard to say softly. Real wolf words carry that weight on their own: Ulric, Wulfric, Wolfgang and Randolph hide the Germanic wulf; Conall, Faolan and Conan are Gaelic; Lupus and Lykos give you Latin and Greek; Vuk, Volkov and Farkas cover the Slavic and Hungarian forms; Okami is Japanese. Myth adds Fenrir, Skoll, Hati and Odin's wolves Geri and Freki, plus Akela and Nymeria from fiction.

Werewolf and shifter stories use a second convention: a plain first name backed by an epithet or clan name that describes the wolf itself, as in Kael Blackfang, Soren Greymane or Astrid Ironfang. The first name keeps the character human; the epithet tells you who runs the pack. Female alphas work the same way, and names borrowed from war goddesses and shieldmaidens (Skadi, Morrigan, Sekhmet, Lagertha, Boudica) sound commanding without being borrowed from a male character.

For a dog, alpha names skew toward one or two hard syllables: Kodiak, Ragnar, Titan, Diesel, Tank. Avoid names that sound like commands (Kit, Bo, Ray) and anything that rhymes with no.
