Werewolf Last Name Generator

Werewolves in fiction rarely announce themselves with a surname like Darkfang. The families that carry the curse tend to have names with a wolf hidden in the etymology, which is why so many languages supply them: Wolfe, Wulf, and Wolfram in English and German; Lupo, Lupescu, Loup, and Lobo in the Romance languages; Vuk, Vlk, Wilk, and Volkov across the Slavic world; Farkas in Hungarian; Ulf in Scandinavia; Faolan and Phelan in Ireland; Bozkurt in Turkish. Old given names such as Randolph, Rudolph, Adolphus, and Beowulf all contain the Germanic wolf root and became surnames long ago. A character named Marcus Volkov or Siobhan Phelan sounds ordinary until you know what to look for.

Modern werewolf series lean on rugged, small-town surnames instead. Twilight's Quileute pack uses real La Push family names (Uley, Ateara, Clearwater, Lahote), Teen Wolf gives its wolves Hale, McCall, and Argent (the hunters, from the French for silver), and Marvel's Wolverine is a Howlett. Rural, weathered English and Irish names such as Redfern, Kincaid, Talbot, and Callahan carry the same feel.

Pack-style compounds (Silverfang, Moonhollow, Stormpelt) belong to a third tradition rooted in Werewolf: The Apocalypse deed names and Warriors-style animal fiction. They are here too, but work best as titles earned within the pack rather than what is printed on a driver's license.
