Worgen are the cursed people of Gilneas, a walled Victorian-era kingdom in the north of the Eastern Kingdoms, and their names reflect that human heritage rather than anything wolfish. Blizzard modeled Gilnean names on 18th- and 19th-century English and Scottish naming: first names like Genn, Darius, Lorna, Tobias, Celestine, and Vincent, paired with weighty gentry surnames such as Greymane, Crowley, Godfrey, Ashbury, and Walden. A good Worgen name sounds like it belongs on a brass plaque outside a foggy manor house.

Surnames tend to follow one of two patterns. Many are real or plausible English place-surnames built from landscape words (Ashbury, Blackwood, Harrington, Fairbanks, Whitfield), while a smaller set lean into the curse itself with a gothic edge: Bloodfang, Greymane, Mistmantle, Darkwalker. Titles like Lord, Baron, and Lady are common among the nobility, and a few feral packmates who lost themselves to the curse go by a single savage epithet instead of a family name.
