Wings of Fire names look simple, but each tribe draws from a specific pool, and fans notice when a name is pulled from the wrong one. SeaWings are named for sea life and water (Tsunami, Coral, Turtle, Anemone, Riptide, Nautilus). IceWings use cold, arctic animals and precious things (Winter, Hailstorm, Icicle, Lynx, Narwhal, Ermine), and their royals often get single sharp words like Glacier or Snowfall. SkyWings take fire, birds of prey and shades of red (Peril, Scarlet, Kestrel, Cliff, Vermilion, Cardinal). SandWings use desert plants, animals and weather (Thorn, Qibli, Sunny, Sirocco, Jerboa, Addax), MudWings use earth, wetlands and marsh creatures (Clay, Umber, Reed, Marsh, Sora, Newt), and RainWings use rainforest plants and animals (Glory, Kinkajou, Jambu, Mangrove, Tamarin, Bromeliad), with the RainWing royal line using grand adjectives such as Magnificent, Grandeur and Dazzling.

NightWings are the exception: they take compound names built from a night or trait word plus a role or verb (Starflight, Moonwatcher, Deathbringer, Fatespeaker, Clearsight, Secretkeeper), and older or more ominous NightWings sometimes have single-word virtue or threat names like Greatness or Vengeance. Across the sea in Pantala, SilkWings are named after butterflies and moths (Blue, Luna, Swordtail, Io, Morpho, Admiral), HiveWings after wasps, bees and other insects (Cricket, Hornet, Wasp, Katydid, Vinegaroon), and LeafWings after trees and plants, often poisonous ones (Sundew, Willow, Hazel, Belladonna, Hemlock, Bryony).

Use the list by tribe: pick your dragon's tribe, then choose a word that a parent of that tribe would actually know. Names that are ordinary nouns (Turtle, Cliff, Cricket) are more authentic than names that sound impressive but come from nowhere in Pyrrhia.
