Wild West Outlaw Name Generator

Wild West outlaws earned their names from what they robbed and where they hid. Between the end of the Civil War and about 1900, train robbers, cattle rustlers, stagecoach bandits and hired guns worked the territories from Missouri to California, and their names reflect that trade: Dynamite Dick blew express-car safes, Black Bart robbed Wells Fargo stages, Cattle Annie and Little Britches ran with rustlers, and Kid Curry rode with the Wild Bunch. Almost every one combined an everyday name with a tag that told strangers what to expect.

The patterns are consistent enough to copy. Snake and predator names (Sidewinder, Rattlesnake, Lobo, Buzzard) marked a man as dangerous. Place names (Cimarron, Pecos, Tulsa Jack, Bitter Creek) placed him. Gun and gambling names (Six-Shooter, Faro Frank, Ace-High) named his habits. Physical tags (Flat Nose, Three-Fingered, Broken Nose) came from lawmen who needed a description more than a name. "Kid" flagged youth: Billy the Kid was 21 when he died and Kid Curry started robbing trains in his twenties. Women outlaws were given softer press names like the Rose of Cimarron and the Bandit Queen.
