Gun Name Generator

Guns get named in three distinct ways, and the best gun name for your project depends on which one you need. The first is the manufacturer-and-model designation: a company name, a letter-number code, and sometimes a marketing word, as in "Colt M1911," "Heckler & Koch MP5," or "Barrett M82." Fictional versions work by imitating that structure, so "Halvorsen HR-9 Kestrel" or "Voss & Kappel VK-12" read as plausible hardware even though no such companies exist. Real designations often encode meaning: the year of adoption (Model 1887), the caliber (.45), or the type (SMG, DMR, PDW).

The second style is the soldier's nickname. Troops rarely call a weapon by its catalog name; the M2 Browning became "Ma Deuce," the M3 was "the Grease Gun," the M60 was "the Pig," and the Thompson was "the Trench Broom." These names are affectionate, sarcastic, or descriptive of the sound and shape, and individual soldiers often go further and give their personal weapon a woman's name, like "Vera" or "Old Painless."

The third style belongs to games and fiction: legendary or unique firearms with names that suggest a story. Looter-shooters and RPGs favor two-word ironic phrases ("Second Opinion," "Closing Argument"), professions turned into threats ("The Coroner"), and cold, elegant single words ("Threnody," "Halcyon"). Mixing all three registers is what makes an in-game armory feel real.
