Vudrani Name Generator
Flowing names for Pathfinder's Vudra and Jalmeray
Generate Vudrani names for Pathfinder characters from Vudra and Jalmeray: Indian-style given names with long coined family names like Devraj Kalyanpura and Ishani Suravela. The list also has monks of the Houses of Perfection such as Sister Anila of Unfolding Wind, rajahs, Obari captains and seekers of Irori.
About Vudrani names
Vudrani are the people of Vudra, the Impossible Kingdoms, in Pathfinder's world of Golarion. Their homeland lies far to the east across the Obari Ocean, so most Vudrani an Inner Sea campaign meets come from Jalmeray, the island realm ruled from Niswan by a thakur and famous for the Houses of Perfection, among them the monasteries of Unblinking Flame, Unfolding Wind and Untwisting Iron. The setting models Vudrani names on Indian ones. Sajan Gadadvara, the game's iconic monk, shows the pattern: a short given name and a long, flowing family name.
This list keeps to that shape. Given names are real Sanskrit-derived and South Asian names such as Devraj, Ishani, Kartik and Malati. Family and house names are coined in the same sound, built like Kalyanpura, Padmasuri or Tejadhara, though a coinage can match a real place or surname by chance. Around them come single given names, monks and students of the Houses, rajahs and court officials, captains and factors of the Obari trade, seekers of Irori, Jalmeray folk with a place byname, adventurer epithets and everyday townspeople.
The canon share is four names: Sajan and Sajni Gadadvara, the maharajah Khiben-Sald and Kharswan, Thakur of Jalmeray. Every other ruler here is invented for home games. This fan-made list has no affiliation with Paizo.
How to choose Vudrani names
- Start with the canon shape: a short given name and a long family name, as in Vikram Tejadhara or Mira Padmasuri. Say the two together once; the family name should take longer than the given one.
- Build a household by sharing the family name. Kalyanpura in this list comes with Devraj Kalyanpura, Anjali Kalyanpura, Rajah Vijayendra Kalyanpura and House Kalyanpura, so relatives and a patron are ready.
- For a monk, pick the monastery before the name. A form like Brother Lohit of Untwisting Iron or Sister Jwala of Unblinking Flame tells the table at once where the character trained.
- Treat the rulers as inventions. The rajahs, maharajahs and thakurs here, such as Rajah Satyendra the Just, are made up for home games. The published Thakur of Jalmeray is Kharswan, so ask your GM before you claim a throne.
- Use place bynames for travelers. Abhijit of Jalmeray or Chandrika of Niswan reads as island-born, while Akshay of Old Vudra marks someone from the far mainland.
Frequently asked questions
What do Vudrani names sound like?
Like Indian names, because the setting models Vudra on South Asia. In this list that means real given names such as Rohan, Lalita, Keshav and Nandini with long family names in the same sound, such as Chandravati, Narmadesh and Varunadvara, for example Rohan Chandravati or Lalita Narmadesh.
Are these names from the Pathfinder books?
Almost none. The canon share is four names: Sajan Gadadvara, the iconic monk, his twin sister Sajni Gadadvara, the maharajah Khiben-Sald and Kharswan, the Thakur of Jalmeray. A few bynames use published places such as Jalmeray, Niswan and the Obari Ocean. The rest are real given names and new coinages, and the page is fan-made and not affiliated with Paizo.
What are the Houses of Perfection?
They are the great monasteries of Jalmeray, where monks train and compete. The best known are the Monastery of Unblinking Flame, the Monastery of Unfolding Wind and the Monastery of Untwisting Iron. Monk names on this page carry one of them, as in Sister Anila of Unfolding Wind or Master Achal of Untwisting Iron, or a training byname such as Brother Dhiraj Stone-Stance.
How is this different from the Indian fantasy name generator?
That page is general South Asian fantasy with no setting attached. This one is framed for Golarion: family names in the Gadadvara mold, monks of Jalmeray's monasteries, followers of Irori and captains of the Obari trade, such as Captain Samudra of the Monsoon Bride.
