High elves (quel'dorei) are the Alliance-aligned elves of Quel'Thalas who refused to become sin'dorei after the Sunwell fell, and their names follow the same Thalassian rules as blood elf names with a slightly older, more courtly feel. Male given names run two to four syllables and end in -as, -ion, -ar, -or, -iel or -ian: Anasterian, Dath'Remar, Auric, Thalorien, Aelrindel. Female names end in -a, -ia, -ys, -ith, -elle or -wen: Alleria, Vereesa, Lyria, Jalinde, Sylandra. Apostrophes (Dath'Remar, Belo'vir) mark a join between two roots and appear in perhaps one name in fifteen.

Surnames are compound English words built from light, sky and wilderness imagery rather than the blood and fire the sin'dorei adopted: Windrunner, Sunstrider, Dawnseeker, Summerdrake, Skystrider, Swiftwind, Brightwing, Starweaver. Ranger families favour wind-, swift-, hawk- and -arrow; mage families favour spell-, rune-, star- and -weaver; priests favour light-, dawn- and -song. A few noble lines keep single-word Thalassian surnames such as Theron, Salonar or Sanavar. Titles like Ranger-Captain, Farstrider, Magister, Magistrix, Arcanist and Priestess are used constantly in Silver Covenant and Allerian Stronghold dialogue.
