Generate alliance names and commander names for Top War: Battle Game. Serious formations like Iron Tide Armada and Skyhammer Wing, merge jokes like Merge or Die, rally and shield humor like No Shield No Mercy, and commander handles like Commander Backup Plan.

About Top War names

Top War: Battle Game is built on one idea, merging: two units of the same level combine into a stronger one. Around that sit an army, a navy and an air force, and wars between whole servers. An alliance name shows on the map, in the rankings and as a short tag in front of every member, so about two thirds of this list are alliance names.

The serious ones borrow military formations: Iron Tide Armada, Granite Legion, Task Force Halberd. Three-service names nod to land, sea and air at once, as in Trident Command and Keel and Contrail, or pick one branch, as in Deepwater Fleet and Skyhammer Wing. The jokes are about the game itself: Merge or Die, Yield to Merging Units, No Shield No Mercy, Teleport and Pray. There are friendly names for casual and farming alliances (Coffee and Conquest), names for alliances spread over many time zones (Round the Clock Command) and short names that abbreviate neatly into a tag (Aegis, Ironwake, Hard Deck).

The rest are commander names: callsigns with a naval or flying ring (Tailhook, Helmsman Actual), a rank with a surname (Commodore Vance, Air Marshal Dunmore) and joke handles (Commander Backup Plan, Major Inconvenience). This is a fan page with no tie to the game's publisher.

How to choose Top War names

Work out the tag before you commit. Iron Tide Armada shortens to ITA and Task Force Lodestar to TFL, while a long joke name can leave you with initials that mean nothing.
Choose a register that matches how the alliance plays. Peaceful Farmers Union sets different expectations from Hard Target Brigade, and a recruit reads the name before anything else.
If your alliance leans on one branch, say so: Deepwater Fleet for navy players, Cloudbreak Wing for air force players, Steel Tread Legion for tank lines.
For members in many countries, plain words travel best. Global Coalition and Many Flags One Base read clearly in any language, while a pun like Naval Oranges may not survive translation.
Match the commander to the alliance. A rank name such as Captain Okafor suits a serious roster, and Commander Snooze Button suits a casual one.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a good Top War alliance name?

A good one is short, easy to read on the map and easy to abbreviate into a tag. Names built on a formation work well, such as Anvil Reserve, Storm Cordon and Bulwark Division. If the alliance has a theme, such as navy play or a shared time zone, put it in the name.

Are there funny Top War alliance names in the list?

Yes. The merge mechanic gives Merge or Die, Two Tanks Walk Into a Bar and Mergers and Acquisitions, and everyday alliance life gives Late to the Rally, Shields Are for Sleeping and Teleported by Mistake. All of them are family friendly.

Does the list include commander names too?

About a third of the list is for commanders. You get callsigns such as Crosswind and Riptide Six, ranks with a surname such as Rear Admiral Baptiste and Colonel Marchetti, and joke handles such as Admiral Autocorrect and Tanks for Nothing.

How is this different from the Last War name page?

The Last War page is written in zombie apocalypse vocabulary, with bunkers, wastelands and survivors. This list is built on what belongs to Top War: the army, navy and air force, and the merging of units.
