Tamagotchi Name Generator

Tamagotchi names have one unmistakable rule: nearly every character Bandai has ever released ends in -tchi. Mametchi (mame is 'bean'), Kuchipatchi (kuchi is 'mouth'), Memetchi (me is 'eye'), Violetchi, Lovelitchi, Nyatchi (nya is a cat's meow) and hundreds more follow the same pattern of a short Japanese or English word plus that suffix, which is a cute diminutive in the Tamagotchi world. Once you know the trick you can turn almost anything into a Tamagotchi: sakura becomes Sakuratchi, pudding becomes Puddingtchi, and a sound like doki-doki (a racing heart) becomes Dokidokitchi.

The best sources for the first half are Japanese food and sweets (mochi, dango, matcha, onigiri), animals (neko, inu, usagi, kuma), nature words (hoshi for star, tsuki for moon, sakura, momiji), and Japanese sound-words called giongo and gitaigo, such as fuwafuwa (fluffy), kirakira (sparkly) or punipuni (squishy). Doubling a syllable (Popotchi, Lulutchi, Mimimitchi) also feels authentically Tamagotchi and keeps names short enough for the little screen.

Modern devices such as the Tamagotchi Uni, Pix, On and the re-released Original let you type your own name for your pet, usually with a limit of about five to eight characters depending on the model. This list mixes canon characters (useful if you are naming a pet after who you hope it will grow into) with original -tchi names and short kawaii nicknames that fit even the strictest name field.
