Naming your farm is the first real decision you make in Stardew Valley, and it sticks: the game shows it on your save file, on the sign by the farmhouse and in the title of every letter Lewis sends. The name box takes up to 12 characters and the game automatically appends 'Farm', so 'Coop Dreams' becomes 'Coop Dreams Farm' and 'Stardrop' becomes 'Stardrop Farm'. That constraint is why the best names are one or two short words. Long poetic titles get cut off before you ever see them.

Players tend to name farms in a few directions. In-game references (Junimo, Stardrop, Iridium, Yoba, Krobus, Ginger Island) show you know the valley. Playthrough themes tell you what the save is about: Coop Dreams for a chicken run, Wine Not for a keg empire, Truffle Shuffle for pigs, Skull Cavern for a mining build. Puns and jokes (Kale Yeah, Udder Chaos, Turnip the Beet, Mayo Clinic) are hugely popular on the Stardew subreddit, as are wry references to the game's opening premise, like Ex Joja or Nine to Five. And plenty of players just want cozy nature names such as Willow Creek, Misty Hollow or Clover Hill.
