Skyscraper Name Generator

Skyscrapers are named in four main ways, and each tells you something about the building. The oldest towers carry the name of the bank, insurer, newspaper or railway that paid for them (a Mutual Tower, an Assurance Building, a Broadcasting House); developers since the 1980s prefer a bare address (One Meridian Place, 200 Harbor Boulevard) because it survives a change of anchor tenant; luxury residential towers and hotels take a soft coinage (Lumen, Altura, The Celeste) that sounds like a fragrance; and once a tower is up, the city gives it a nickname based on its shape: the Keel, the Quill, the Wedge, the Tuning Fork.

The suffix is a signal. Tower, Spire and Point promise height; Centre, Place and Square suggest a podium with shops and a plaza; Heights, Residences and Lofts mean people live there; a bare definite article (The Vantage, The Monolith) means the building is confident enough to be a landmark. Outside the English-speaking world the same logic runs through Torre, Tour, Turm, Menara and Burj, and a single foreign form can place a skyline in Madrid, Paris, Kuala Lumpur or the Gulf.

The list mixes all of these so you can name one signature tower or an entire financial district, from a Gilded Age bank headquarters to a glass residential spire.
