Cyberpunk City Name Generator

Cyberpunk cities are recognizable by their names before you ever see the neon. The genre's classics set the pattern: Neo-Tokyo in Akira, Night City in Cyberpunk 2077, Chiba City and the Sprawl (the Boston-Atlanta Metropolitan Axis) in Neuromancer, and Mega-City One in Judge Dredd. Each name signals that the city is either a rebuilt version of a real place, a corporate creation, or a bloated urban region that swallowed everything around it.

The most useful naming approaches are: prefixing a real city with Neo or New (Neo-Seoul, New Angeles) to imply rebuilding after collapse; naming a district after the megacorporation that owns it (Arasaka City, Renraku Arcology, Tyrell Heights); reducing a place to a number or grid reference (Sector 7, District 12, Sublevel 12) to show a dehumanized bureaucracy; using bleak, ironic slang for the poorest levels (The Undercity, The Slabs, The Rust); and, in contrast, giving corporate-run neighborhoods bland utopian names like Harmony Ward or Serenity Heights that nobody believes.

The list below covers all of these, from full megacity names down to individual neon districts, and borrows the flavor of Japanese, Cantonese, and Korean street names because so much of the genre grew from Blade Runner's Los Angeles and 1980s visions of Tokyo and Hong Kong. Mix scales freely: a good setting has one big name for the city and dozens of smaller ones for its wards, stacks, and combat zones.
