Shadow Dragon Name Generator

A shadow dragon is not a separate color but a transformation: in Dungeons & Dragons any true dragon that lingers too long in the Shadowfell, or is deliberately corrupted there, fades into a gaunt, translucent shade whose breath drains life rather than burning it. Their names should sound like that fade. The canon examples lean on sibilants and soft, smothered consonants: Aurgloroasa, the Sibilant Shade of Thunderholme; Nurvureem, the Dark Lady of Cormanthor; and Thaxll'ssillyia, the shadow dragon lurking in the Umar Hills temple ruins in Baldur's Gate II. Compare those with the hard, clanging names of red or black dragons and the difference is obvious.

The building blocks are long Draconic words with doubled s and z, breathy th and kh, and low vowels (Ssythrax, Nyzhareth, Umbrakhan), often finished with an epithet that describes what the dragon takes away: the Lightless, the Starless, Eater of Dusk, Drinker of Lamps. Latin and Greek roots for darkness (umbra, tenebrae, nox, nyx, skia, erebos, caligo, vesper) give a second, more scholarly flavor, and Skyrim's dragon tongue supplies vokun, the dovah word for shadow.

The list mixes standalone Draconic names, named shades with epithets and lairs, umbral compounds, wyrmling names and a few canon dragons to set the tone.
