Nord Name Generator

Nords are Tamriel's answer to the Norse, and Bethesda names them accordingly. A Nord given name is short, hard and Scandinavian-sounding, built from roots you would find in an Icelandic saga: Ulfric, Ralof, Hadvar, Torvar, Sigrid, Gerdur, Brynjolf, Eydis. The k, g, r and th sounds do most of the work, with broad vowels (o, u, a) rather than soft ones. Many of the game's names are real Old Norse names with a letter or two changed, which is exactly the trick to use when inventing your own.

What makes a Nord name unmistakable is the epithet. Old clans carry hyphenated dynastic names such as Battle-Born, Gray-Mane, Silver-Blood, Shatter-Shield and Snow-Shod. Individuals earn descriptive bynames that record a trait or deed: Galmar Stone-Fist, Farengar Secret-Fire, Froki Whetted-Blade, Roggi Knot-Beard. Legends and jarls take 'the' titles like Balgruuf the Greater, Uthgerd the Unbroken or Jorunn the Skald-King. Ordinary farmers, guards and mead-hall regulars usually go by a single given name.

This list mixes canon Nords from Skyrim, ESO and the older games with original names that follow the same rules, roughly half men and half women, so you can name a Dragonborn, a Stormcloak officer, a Skaal shaman or a full village in Eastmarch.
