Real money names almost always come from one of four sources: a weight (the pound, the mark, the shekel, and the talent were all units of weight before they were coins), an image stamped on the coin (the crown, the sovereign, the angel, the florin with its Florentine lily), the metal itself (the Roman aureus from aurum, gold), or the place that minted it (the thaler from Joachimsthal, ancestor of the dollar). Borrowing those four patterns is the fastest way to invent a currency that feels like it has been jingling in purses for centuries.

Most fantasy economies also need a denomination ladder rather than a single coin. Dungeons & Dragons uses copper, silver, electrum, gold, and platinum pieces; A Song of Ice and Fire uses copper pennies, silver stags, and gold dragons; and The Witcher uses orens, crowns, and florens by kingdom. A convincing ladder pairs each metal with an image or nickname (Copper Bit, Silver Stag, Gold Dragon, Platinum Throne), so characters can talk about money without repeating the word gold every sentence.

Finally, people rarely use official names in conversation. Give your world some slang (coppers, clink, shine, dust) and some non-coin money (trade bars, salt cakes, guild scrip, letters of credit) and the economy will feel lived in.
