Megacorporation Name Generator

Megacorporations are the villains, employers and landlords of cyberpunk and hard sci-fi, and their names follow patterns you can copy. The genre's founders set the template with two families of names. One is the Japanese zaibatsu style, popularised by Neuromancer and Cyberpunk 2020: a real-sounding surname or place plus a formal suffix, giving Arasaka, Mishima Zaibatsu, Kuroda Heavy Industries. The other is the Anglo-German conglomerate, often two founders' names hyphenated: Weyland-Yutani, Tessier-Ashpool, Saeder-Krupp. Both work because they sound like companies that could plausibly exist today.

The second important flavour is bland corporate-speak, the name that reveals nothing and reassures everyone. Omni Consumer Products, Umbrella Corporation and Abstergo Industries are frightening precisely because they sound harmless. Modern brand naming gives you a whole vocabulary of these: Ubiquity, Continuum, Paragon, Better Tomorrow Inc. A megacorp can also be named for its sector, so a biotech giant is Genesyn or Verdant Helix and an arms maker is Talos Defense or Kestrel Armaments.

When you build a setting, use several styles at once. A world where Ravensburg Werke competes with Hoshino Denki and Signal Nine feels globalised and lived-in, and the contrast tells the reader which corp does what before a single line of dialogue.
