Generate cyberpunk gang names with the flavor of the Maelstrom, Voodoo Boys, Tyger Claws, and the Panther Moderns: chrome-obsessed boostergangs, hacker collectives, corporate-backed militias, and neon street crews for your TTRPG, novel, or game.

About cyberpunk gang names

Cyberpunk gangs are more than street crews with neon paint. In the tabletop Cyberpunk games and Cyberpunk 2077, they are sorted by what they worship: boostergangs like Maelstrom chase cybernetic augmentation to the point of psychosis; posergangs like the Valentinos or the Tyger Claws build an identity around a look or a culture; nomad packs like the Aldecaldos live on the road; the Voodoo Boys are netrunners; and the Animals shun chrome for pumped-up muscle. Shadowrun adds go-gangs, thrill gangs, and corporate-sponsored security crews, and Neuromancer gave us the Panther Moderns, media terrorists as much as criminals.

Good cyberpunk gang names follow that logic. They tell you the gang's obsession in a word or two: chrome and metal for boosters (Chrome Skulls, Red Chrome), tech and network jargon for hacker collectives (Zero-Day Crew, Kernel Panic, Sudo Squad), the vocabulary of organ-harvesting for scavenger crews (Skinners, The Fleshworks), and religious language for cults that treat augmentation as salvation (Church of Chrome, The Ascended). Real-world gang naming conventions still apply, too, so territory names (Sector 9 Kings, The Freeside Fifty), ethnic and cultural markers, and biker-style MC suffixes all feel authentic.

The list mixes canon gangs from Cyberpunk 2077 and Neuromancer with original crews built on those same principles, so you can drop them into Night City, a Shadowrun sprawl, or your own dystopian setting.

Tips for choosing a name

  • Decide the gang's obsession first (chrome, code, drugs, faith, territory, a look), then pick a name that advertises it; Maelstrom and the Voodoo Boys are instantly readable that way.
  • Not every gang needs a The or a plural noun. Single-word names (Maelstrom, Blackline, Kill Switch) read as harder and more established.
  • Anchor at least one gang to a real district in your city (Sector 9 Kings, The Undercity Saints); it makes the map feel lived in.
  • Corporate names for a gang (The Board, Hostile Takeover) work best for crews that are secretly, or openly, funded by a megacorp.
  • Give the gang a slur or nickname that rivals use, since street names in fiction are often what enemies call you, not what you chose.

Frequently asked questions

What are the gangs in Cyberpunk 2077?

Night City's major gangs are the Maelstrom, Valentinos, Tyger Claws, Voodoo Boys, Animals, Sixth Street, Scavengers, The Mox, Wraiths, and the nomad Aldecaldos. Older Cyberpunk 2020 material adds the Bozos, Philharmonic Vampyres, Inquisitors, and Iron Sights.

What is a boostergang?

In Cyberpunk lore, boostergangs are gangs defined by heavy cybernetic augmentation and violence, with Maelstrom as the prime example. Posergangs, by contrast, imitate a style or celebrity, and go-gangs live on vehicles.

How do I make a cyberpunk gang name sound authentic?

Combine one hard, concrete image (chrome, razor, static, slag) with a real gang-name structure such as a plural noun, an MC suffix, or a territory reference. Avoid stacking multiple tech words together, which reads as parody.

Can I use these gang names in my own game or story?

Yes. Canon gangs like Maelstrom and the Voodoo Boys are shown as examples and belong to CD Projekt and R. Talsorian; the original names are free to use in any campaign, novel, or game.
