About Sci-Fi energy names
Every science fiction setting needs something for the reactor to run on, the shields to be made of and the crew to be afraid of. This list holds 1,000 invented names for those energies, fields, radiations and fuels. None of them is meant to describe a real physical phenomenon: well-known physics terms and the famous energies of films, games and books were left out on purpose, so what you pick is yours to define.
The names follow the ways people name such things. Scientists coin a word (Vantic, Orrume, Sellith) or attach a discoverer to a noun (Marrow Radiation, The Okonjel Field); the discoverers are fictional too. Engineers describe what the instruments show (Null Plasma, Tachyon Shear, Lattice Current). Everyone else uses a common name that sticks: The Bright, Deepfire, Coldlight. Regulators grade it (Type-IV Vantic Flux), companies brand it (Evenflame Standard, Longhaul Blue) and the people who work beside it call it Hot Soup or Angry Juice.
One energy can carry several of these names at once, and that layering does a lot of worldbuilding. The list also covers alien and precursor energies (Makers' Breath, Ushaal-tek), forbidden ones (Widowlight, Proscribed Flux), psionic and dimensional ones with a technical gloss (Noetic Flux, Cognitive Shear), and energies named for the place they were found.
How to choose Sci-Fi energy names
- Give your main energy three names: a formal one for papers, a graded or commercial one for manifests, and a slang one for the people who handle it. Marrow Radiation, Third-Order Marrow Scatter and The Itch could all be the same thing seen from three decks.
- Decide what the energy does before you pick. The last word tells a reader how it behaves: a field sits in place, a flux or current flows, a radiation harms at a distance, and a slurry, gel or brine has to be carried in tanks.
- Use a discoverer name when your setting has a past. Brandiver Glow implies that someone called Brandiver found it, and who that was is a free piece of backstory.
- Keep the name your characters say most short and easy to pronounce. A bare coined word such as Vantic or Thessane survives a hundred repetitions; save the long graded forms for readouts and reports.
- Search a name before you publish with it. A coined word can turn out to be a company, a product or another author's invention.

Are these real kinds of energy?
No. The entries are invented names, and well-known terms of real physics were left out as entries so that nothing here is offered as science. Some names borrow real words such as plasma, tachyon and flux, and a combination may happen to echo a technical term, but none is meant as one.
What should I call the energy a shield is made of?
Look for names that end in a field, veil, mantle or screen: Stillwater Field, Glassveil, Mirror Mantle and Honeycomb Screen are all in the list. A shield name works best when it hints at how the shield fails, so Eggshell Field and Breakwater Veil promise different scenes.
Can I use these names in my book or game?
Yes, they are free to use. The list was de-duplicated and screened for offensive terms, but nobody compared it with every published setting or product name, so search your favorite before you build a world on it.
