Little Nightmares Name Generator
Small children, tall monsters and places that want to eat you
Generate Little Nightmares names in the style of the games: tiny protagonists like Six, Mono, Low and Alone, looming adult monsters named for their jobs, groups of Guests and Viewers, and the Maw, the Pale City and other dreadful places. Includes the canon cast plus hundreds of original names for OCs, fan fiction, fan games and usernames.
About Little Nightmares names
Little Nightmares names work by contrast. The children are tiny and so are their names: a number (Six), a single quiet word (Mono, Low, Alone) or no name at all, just a raincoat or a paper bag. The adults who hunt them never get a name, only a role with a definite article in front: The Janitor, The Twin Chefs, The Teacher, The Thin Man. Groups are named as a flat plural (The Guests, The Viewers, The Bullies, The Nomes), and places are named for what they are in the plainest possible words: The Maw, The Depths, The Hideaway, The Pale City, The Signal Tower.
That plainness is the horror. A name like The Lady or The Hunter tells you nothing about who they were, only what they do to you now, and a child called Six sounds like an inventory number. The Very Little Nightmares prequel and the third game keep the grammar exactly (The Pretender, The Craftsman, Monster Baby, The Necropolis), so the pattern is the brand.
This generator starts with the canon characters, groups and locations from all the games and DLC, then gives you original names in every register: small worn-down names for a protagonist, job-titled and nicknamed monsters, collective nouns for the things that watch, grim industrial locations, the creatures that live in the walls, and Little Nightmares themed usernames for fans.
How to choose Little Nightmares names
- Name a child like a thing that was overlooked: a number, a scrap (Thimble, Smudge, Wick), a weather (Dusk, Murk) or a tiny old-world name (Otto, Nell, Pim). One or two syllables, never a surname, never anything that sounds chosen with love.
- Name an adult for the job and nothing else. The Seamstress, The Bellringer or The Night Nurse is scarier than any invented proper name, because the title is all that is left of them. If you want a personal name, make it a nursery nickname gone wrong: Mother Gristle, Uncle Tallow.
- Pick a location name by asking what the building does: The Cannery, The Bottling Plant, The Deep Ward, The Sugar Works. Add a colour only if it is grey, pale or black.
- Groups should be bland plurals that sound like a guest list or a school register: The Diners, The Boarders, The Choir. The blandness implies there are many and they all behave the same way.
- For usernames, combine a canon noun with a small action or object (NomeHugger, LighterInTheDark, PaperBagMono) rather than reusing a bare character name, which is almost always taken.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include the real Little Nightmares characters?
Yes. The list opens with Six, Mono, Low, Alone, the Runaway Kid and every major adult and group from Little Nightmares I and II, the Secrets of the Maw DLC, Very Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares III, plus the named locations such as the Maw, the Pale City and the Necropolis. Those names belong to Bandai Namco and Tarsier/Supermassive and are listed for reference; everything after them is original.
How do I name a Little Nightmares OC?
Decide whether your character is a child or one of the adults. Children get a single small word: another number if you want to hint at Six's world, or a worn-down object name like Stub, Tack or Spool. Adults get a role with 'The' in front, chosen to fit the location they haunt, so a hospital OC might be The Orderly and a factory OC might be The Foreman. Avoid giving either side a full realistic name; it breaks the tone of the series.
What makes a good name for a monster in this style?
Long, thin, quiet and specific. The best ones describe a body or a habit in two or three plain words (The Long Lady, The Ceiling Walker, Crooked Neck) or borrow a job that involves hands, food or children (The Wet Nurse, The Sugar Boiler, The Taxidermist). Avoid words like demon, beast or slayer; nothing in Little Nightmares announces itself.
Can I use these names for a fan game, story or username?
The original children, adults, groups and places are free to use in fan fiction, fan games, tabletop horror or your own project. The canon names are trademarks of their owners, so use them for fan work only. The username section near the end is written to be distinctive enough to still be available on most platforms.
