Klingon Name Generator

Klingon names in Star Trek are built for shouting across a battlefield. Most canon names are one or two syllables and lean on hard sounds: Worf, Kurn, Kor, Kang, Koloth, Martok, Gowron, Duras, Kruge, Chang, Gorkon. Initial K is overwhelmingly common, followed by G, T, M, and V, and names tend to end on a stop or a rolled consonant rather than a soft vowel. When names run longer, they usually carry an apostrophe marking a glottal catch: K'Ehleyr, K'mpec, L'Rell, T'Kuvma, Nu'Daq, Ch'Pok. Female names follow the same rules (Lursa, B'Etor, Azetbur, Grilka, Sirella, L'Rell), and canon shows only a slight tendency toward -a endings for women.

What distinguishes a Klingon from a generic space warrior is the lineage formula. Klingons introduce themselves as name, son or daughter of father, and often name their House: 'Worf, son of Mogh, of the House of Martok.' The House is the political unit of the Empire, and House names are simply the founder's name (House of Duras, House of Mogh). Honor, feuds, and discommendation all attach to the House, so a full name says where a warrior stands.

In Marc Okrand's tlhIngan Hol, capitalization is phonetic (Q, S, H, I are distinct sounds), which is why you will see forms like Qo'noS and tlhIngan. Most writers use anglicized spellings for characters and keep the strict orthography for ships and vocabulary, and this list follows that practice.
