Ki Attack Name Generator
Energy blasts, beams and finishers worth charging up
Generate ki attack names in the Dragon Ball tradition: canon blasts like Kamehameha and Final Flash, original energy waves, beams, discs and charged fists, plus Japanese-style technique names for your OC, fan fiction, or tabletop fighter.
About ki attack names
Ki attacks get their names from a small set of formulas that Dragon Ball established and every successor copied. The simplest is a concrete noun plus a delivery word: Galick Gun, Death Beam, Spirit Bomb, Destructo Disc, Big Bang Attack. Japanese names tend to be compounds ending in -ha (wave), -dan (bullet), -ken (fist), -ho (cannon) or -ko (light), so Makankosappo, Kikoho, Kienzan and Taiyoken all read as technique names even before you know their meaning.
The delivery word tells the reader what the attack looks like. A wave is a wide sustained beam, a cannon or ray is a thin piercing one, a disc or blade cuts, a bomb or sphere is thrown, a volley or barrage is rapid fire, and a fist or kick is melee with ki behind it. The front half carries the flavor: color (Crimson, Azure), celestial imagery (Comet, Nova, Eclipse), elements (Thunder, Frost, Ember), or the user's identity (Wolf Fang Fist, Dragon Fist). Finishers earn an extra word like Final, Super or God, but only one, and only once per character.
The list mixes canon moves with original names built on the same skeletons, so you can hand a fighter a full kit from basic blast to planet-cracking ultimate.
How to choose ki attack names
- Build a kit, not a list: give a character one basic blast, one rapid-fire move, one cutting or throwing move, one melee ki move and one finisher, each with a matching delivery word.
- Use Final, Super, God or Ultimate on exactly one move per character; if every attack has a rank word, none of them feels like the ultimate.
- Keep the front half concrete. Crimson Meteor Cannon paints a picture; Ultimate Power Blast does not. One image per name is plenty.
- If you use a Japanese-style name, keep the suffix honest: -ha for waves and beams, -dan for projectiles, -ken for fists, -ho for cannons, -sen or -ko for flashes of light.
- Say it in a fight sentence with a charge-up pause before the last word (Ga-lick... GUN). If it does not break naturally like that, it will feel awkward on the page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a ki attack?
In Dragon Ball and the martial-arts anime it inspired, ki is the body's life energy, and a ki attack is that energy shaped and fired as a beam, sphere, disc or wave, or focused into a punch or kick. Kamehameha, Galick Gun, Special Beam Cannon and Spirit Bomb are the best-known examples.
Are the canon Dragon Ball attack names free to use?
Names like Kamehameha, Final Flash and Destructo Disc belong to the Dragon Ball franchise, so use them for fan fiction, fan games and homages rather than an original commercial product. The original names in this list are free to use in any project.
How do I name a ki attack for my own Saiyan or OC?
Pick one image tied to the character (their color, animal, planet or personality), one delivery word that matches how the attack looks (Wave, Cannon, Disc, Fist, Sphere), and optionally a Japanese compound version for the shouted form. Reuse the same image across the character's moves so the kit feels like one fighting style.
What do the Japanese attack names mean?
Most are short compounds: Kikoho is roughly 'spirit cannon,' Kienzan is 'spirit circle slash,' Taiyoken is 'sun fist,' Makankosappo is 'demon piercing killing light cannon,' and Genki Dama is 'energy ball.' The original Japanese-style names here use the same building blocks: ryu (dragon), rai (thunder), ten (heaven), sei (star), en (flame), hyo (ice) plus a suffix for the attack type.
