Holiday Name Generator

Real holidays are named in a handful of ways, and copying those patterns is what makes an invented one feel like it has been on the calendar for years. Some describe the thing celebrated (Harvest Home, Candlemas, Midsummer). Some mark a moment in the year with a simple noun plus Eve, Day, Night or Tide (Twelfth Night, Boxing Day, Whitsuntide). Religious and civic calendars favor 'Feast of' and 'Festival of' constructions, while modern novelty observances run to 'National Something Day'. Older names often fuse two words into one: Yuletide, Hogmanay, Walpurgisnacht.

The tone comes from the noun you attach. Lanterns, frost, bread, bells and bonfires produce warm, folk-calendar holidays; crowns, vigils, ash and remembrance produce solemn state or religious days suited to a fantasy kingdom; socks, pancakes and unread messages produce the whimsical household or office holidays people actually invent. A good made-up holiday also implies an activity, so 'Apple Pressing Week' or 'Lantern Boat Eve' tells a reader what happens without a footnote.
