Healer Name Generator

A healer's name has to do one job before anything else: sound like someone you would let near an open wound. Across fantasy fiction and tabletop games that usually means soft consonants, open vowels and a steady rhythm, which is why names like Elowen, Seraphine, Ansel and Liora turn up on healers so often while harsh, clipped names get handed to warriors. Surnames lean toward water, light, herbs and hearths: Stillwater, Dawnmere, Balmsworth, Thistlecroft, Hearthstone.

Real healing traditions are the richest source. Greek myth gives Asclepius and his daughters Hygieia, Panacea, Iaso and Aceso; the Norse have Eir, the Irish have Airmed and Dian Cecht, and Sanskrit tradition has Dhanvantari and the physicians Charaka and Sushruta. Saints Cosmas, Damian, Luke and Pantaleon are the patrons of medieval medicine, and monastic titles like Brother, Sister, Abbess and Hospitaller instantly place a healer inside an order. Herb names such as Yarrow, Comfrey, Betony and Selfheal make convincing given names or surnames because they were literally what the healer worked with.

This generator mixes all of those registers: full names in Western, Celtic, Middle Eastern, East Asian, South Asian and African styles, epithets earned at the bedside (the Mender, Sure-Needle, Fever-Breaker), single-name sages and angelic or divine healers for a cleric, white mage, medic or village wise woman.
