Druid Name Generator

The word druid comes from the Celtic peoples of Iron Age Gaul, Britain and Ireland, so the most convincing druid names are Celtic ones. Irish myth gives us Cathbad, the druid of Ulster, Amergin the poet-druid of the Milesians, Mug Ruith the blind sun-druid, and the sorceress Tlachtga. Welsh tradition offers Taliesin, Myrddin (the original Merlin) and Cerridwen with her cauldron of inspiration. Roman writers even recorded a real Gaulish druid, Diviciacus of the Aedui, who was a friend of Cicero.

For a fantasy druid, the usual pattern is a Celtic given name (Aoife, Rhiannon, Oisín, Gwydion) paired with an earned nature epithet that describes the character's bond with the wild: Oakenheart, Thornroot, Ravenwatch, Salmonleap. Circle of the Moon druids often take animal-flavoured epithets such as Bearclaw or Stagborn, while Circle of the Land druids suit tree, herb and stone names like Hazelwise or Starmoss. Some druids abandon their birth name entirely and answer only to a plant: Rowan, Yarrow, Sloe, Bracken.
