A graffiti tag is a writer's signature, and it follows conventions that go back to 1970s New York and Philadelphia. Tags are short, usually three to six letters, because they have to be written fast and look good in a single stroke of marker or paint. Writers favor letters with strong shapes (K, S, Z, R, E) that connect well in a handstyle and flex in a wildstyle piece. Real legends like SEEN, DONDI, ZEPHYR, PHASE 2 and BLADE set the template, though a modern writer would never bite those names outright.
