Godzilla Name Generator

Godzilla's own name shows how Toho names a kaiju: Gojira is a blend of gorira (gorilla) and kujira (whale), and the English 'Godzilla' simply re-spelled it. Most of the classic roster follows that recipe of a Japanese noun plus a growling suffix. Ebirah comes from ebi (shrimp), Kumonga from kumo (spider), Kamacuras from kamakiri (mantis), Hedorah from hedoro (sludge), and Anguirus is a mangled Ankylosaurus. Endings like -ra, -don, -gon, -gan, -rah and -gira do most of the work, which is why even invented names such as Yamaguras or Raijura sound instantly at home.

The Monsterverse films took a different route and gave their Titans mythological codenames: Behemoth, Scylla, Methuselah, Tiamat, Camazotz, Amhuluk, Na Kika and Mokele-Mbembe, with Monarch tagging each as 'Titanus' plus a Latin or native name. Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong added Shimo, Skar King and Suko, so short, hard-consonant names are now just as canon as long Japanese ones.
