Generate Kaiju No. 8 names: main cast names such as Kafka Hibino, Mina Ashiro and Kikoru Shinomiya first, then original Defense Force officers, kaiju and gear such as Platoon Leader Hajime Takatsuki, Kaiju No. 26, the Lake Biwa serpent, SW-3104 (twin blades) and Shirogane Cleanup Co.

About Kaiju No. 8 names

Kaiju No. 8 names its people and its monsters in opposite ways. The humans carry modern Japanese names, written given name first in the English release: Kafka Hibino, Mina Ashiro, Kikoru Shinomiya. The monsters mostly get no name at all. A main kaiju is a honju, the smaller ones that arrive with it are yoju, and only the most dangerous are filed under a number, which is how the title character becomes Kaiju No. 8.

The Defense Force is organized just as plainly. Divisions are numbered, bases take the name of the place they stand in, and the ranks you meet include officer, platoon leader, vice-captain and captain. Personal weapons carry a letter and number code such as SW-2033 or AX-0112, while a Numbers weapon is built from a numbered kaiju and keeps its number.

This list opens with a block of names from the series and then applies the same rules to originals: officers with and without rank, split evenly between women and men, operators and scientists, divisions, bases and platoons, daikaiju numbered from No. 20 up with a short descriptor, honju and yoju tagged by place or type, weapon codes, Numbers weapons and kaiju cleanup companies. It is a fan-made list with no connection to the manga, the anime or their publishers.

How to choose Kaiju No. 8 names

  • For an officer OC, choose the plain full name first and add the rank later. Ranks move over a story, so Daigo Kanzaki can start as an officer cadet and end as a platoon leader without a new name.
  • Give an original daikaiju a number and one concrete trait, as in Kaiju No. 34 (frost-breathing quadruped). The originals here start at No. 20 to stay clear of the low numbers the series itself uses.
  • Match a Numbers weapon to its kaiju. If Kaiju No. 53 is a bladed mantis form, Numbers Weapon 53 (mantis twin sickles) follows from it, and readers can guess what the gear does.
  • Unnumbered kaiju need only a place or a body type: Kisarazu honju, Fungal-type yoju. Save the numbers for threats that a whole division turns out for.
  • Cleanup crews should sound like small local businesses, a family or neighborhood word plus the job, such as Shirogane Cleanup Co. or Tsubame Dismantling Works.

Frequently asked questions

Which Kaiju No. 8 character names are in the list?

The list opens with names from the series, including Kafka Hibino, Mina Ashiro, Soshiro Hoshina, Kikoru Shinomiya, Reno Ichikawa and Gen Narumi, along with numbered kaiju such as Kaiju No. 9 and Kaiju No. 10 and places such as Tachikawa Base. They are there as reference points. Everything after that block is original.

Does it include female Kaiju No. 8 characters?

Yes. Women from the series in the opening block include Mina Ashiro, Kikoru Shinomiya, Hikari Shinomiya, Konomi Okonogi, Akari Minase, Hakua Igarashi, Tae Nakanoshima and Rin Shinonome. Half of the original Defense Force names are women as well, from Reika Tsukishiro and Officer Cadet Himari Tsukuda to Captain Sayuri Hojo of the Ninth Division.

How are kaiju named in Kaiju No. 8?

Mostly they are not named. A main kaiju is called a honju and the smaller ones around it yoju, usually tagged by where they appeared or what they resemble. The strongest are identified by number, like Kaiju No. 8, and this list follows that pattern with originals such as Kaiju No. 26, the Lake Biwa serpent.

Can I use these names for fan fiction or a tabletop game?

Yes, the original names are meant for your own officers, monsters and gear in fan fiction, roleplay and tabletop games. The names from the series belong to its creators, so treat the opening block as reference. This page is a fan project and is not affiliated with the manga or the anime.
