Goblin City Name Generator

Goblin settlements are named the way goblins think: by what the place smells like, what lives in it, or who bullied everyone into digging it. Where a dwarf city is a Hall or a Hold and an elf city is a Spire, a goblin city is a Hole, a Heap, a Warren, a Sprawl or a Gnaw. Tolkien's Goblin-town, D&D's Cragmaw caves, Pathfinder's Thistletop and Warhammer's night-goblin lairs all follow the pattern; Warcraft's Kezan and Undermine show the other branch, where goblins discovered trade and built boom towns of sprockets, dynamite and unpaid debts.

The sound does a lot of the work. Goblin-tongue names favour short clacky syllables with k, g, z and doubled consonants (Zibzak, Grotnik, Skraggadash), while gutter-English compounds pair something unpleasant with a place word (Rotgut Hollow, Mudgullet, Scabrock). A boss-name with a possessive (Gutwad's Hole, Narkle's Heap) tells players the city will collapse the moment its king dies; a -ton or -wick ending (Gobbleton, Rotwick) suggests goblins squatting in a human town they overran.

Scale shows in the place word: a burrow or den is a few dozen goblins, a warren or hollow a proper town, and a sprawl, deep or hold a city with a goblin king and unmapped tunnels.
