Genasi Name Generator

Genasi are mortals touched by one of the four Elemental Planes, and the Elemental Evil Player's Companion gives them a simple naming rule: they use the conventions of the people who raised them, but many also take a name in Primordial or one that reflects their element. In practice that produces three kinds of name. A city-raised genasi might be plain Rowan Cloudmere or Tobias Kilnwell, a human name with a surname that hints at the bloodline. One raised near a planar rift or by a genie parent sounds Primordial: Zorvath, Maerith, Ulmarr, Vaelis. And a genasi who wants the heritage to be obvious takes an epithet or a name that literally means the element in a real language, such as Zephyr, Petra, Alev or Nerida.

Each element has its own sound. Auran air names are breathy and light, full of vowels, soft l and s, and endings like -ys or -is (Ilyra, Sirocco, Caelith). Terran earth names are blunt and consonant-heavy with hard k, g and r (Dorgrim, Brakka, Tholgrim). Ignan fire names hiss and crackle with sh, z and th (Kaelith, Ashaari, Zarrik). Aquan water names flow with m, n, l and long vowels (Thalassa, Ulmora, Nerith). Because the Forgotten Realms ties genasi to Calimshan and Zakhara, Arabic, Persian and Turkish names like Bahram, Soraya and Deniz also fit perfectly.
