Funny town names work because real place names are already slightly ridiculous. Britain has parishes that sound like digestive complaints, America has crossroads named after whatever happened there on a Tuesday, and every country has a village whose name means something rude in the next valley over. The joke lands when an invented name copies those real structures exactly and then swaps in something undignified: a respectable suffix like -bury, -ford, Springs or Junction attached to a word like Soggy, Gristle or Disappointment.

There are a few reliable flavors. Mock-English names stack prefixes and parish-register formality onto nonsense (Much Wittering, Lesser Dithering, Dribble-on-the-Wold). American frontier names put a grim or gross noun in front of Gulch, Flats, Hollow or Landing (Buzzard Gulch, Toe Jam Junction). Mundane names are funny precisely because nobody would found a town called Mediocre Springs or Lower Expectations. And one-word names like Squelch, Nope or Beige feel like a sign someone put up in a fit of honesty.

For maps, games or a running gag, mix the styles so they read like a real region with a bad attitude. The best ones are easy to say in a weather report.
