Firbolgs are the reclusive giant-kin of Dungeons & Dragons 5e, gentle forest guardians who would rather herd deer than fight. Their naming lore is unusual: according to Volo's Guide to Monsters, firbolgs do not use personal names among themselves. A firbolg knows their clan-mates by scent, deed, and role, and only takes a name when dealing with outsiders. Because firbolgs share the deep woods with elves, the name they adopt is almost always Elvish (Aelar, Berrian, Caelynn, Naivara), sometimes with a nature word attached for the benefit of humans who expect surnames.

Critical Role popularized a second style. Caduceus Clay and Pumat Sol, along with the whole Clay family (Corrin, Constance, Colton, Clarabelle, Calliope), gave firbolgs a warm, slightly old-fashioned sound: an antique human given name paired with a plain earthy surname. Names like Barnaby Fern, Harriet Marsh, or Thaddeus Hollow follow that pattern and instantly read as kind, patient, and a bit rustic. Descriptive names such as Speaks-With-Deer or Keeps-the-Fire-Low capture how firbolgs might refer to one another inside the clan, and title-names like Grandmother Yew or Old Bramble suit elders.

Whatever style you choose, firbolg names should feel unhurried. Soft consonants, plant and soil words, and nothing that sounds like it wants a fight.
