It depends on which name you mean. A cover identity should be plausible and forgettable for the country it claims (Solange Duval, Ingrid Solheim, Priya Raman). A code name should be short, generic and unconnected to the woman herself (Wren, Nightshade, Tourmaline). Only the aristocratic alias, used for access to high society, is allowed to be memorable.

A small set are real historical agents (Mata Hari, Virginia Hall, Noor Inayat Khan, Violette Szabo, Nancy Wake, Krystyna Skarbek, Belle Boyd) and a few are famous fictional spies (Vesper Lynd, Sydney Bristow, Emma Peel, Modesty Blaise, Carrie Mathison). Everything else is original and free to use for characters, games and role-play.

Usually from a list of neutral words with no link to the agent: flowers, birds, minerals, place names, random dictionary words. The SOE gave women agents in occupied France names like Madeleine, Louise and Nurse; the CIA and KGB used cryptonyms that were often deliberately dull. The rule is that a captured message should reveal nothing about who the code name belongs to.

The code names and epithets are gender-neutral and work for anyone; for men's cover identities use the general spy name generator linked above. For a team, give each member a code name from the same family (all birds, all gemstones, all herbs) so the set sounds deliberate.
