Female Necromancer Name Generator

A necromancer's name should feel like it belongs on a tomb. The oldest sources give plenty of material: Erictho, the Thessalian witch in Lucan who reanimates a corpse; Canidia and Sagana, the grave-robbing witches of Horace; Hecate, Persephone and Melinoe, Greek goddesses of the underworld; Hel, Morana and Ereshkigal from Norse, Slavic and Sumerian myth. Latin gives the perfect epithets, because Roman funerary words (Mortis, Cinis, Sepulcra, Manes, Lemuria) already sound like spells.

Fantasy games layered new conventions on top. D&D and Diablo necromancers often use a personal name plus a grim compound surname (Isaura Gravesong, Xarissa Bonewhisper), a title earned through infamy (the Pale Lady of Vharos, Mother Marrow), or a single harsh invented name with an apostrophe or a Z (Kel'Thara, Zaraketh). Poison plants and grave flowers, such as Belladonna, Asphodel, Hemlock and Wormwood, work as first names for a necromancer who was raised in the craft rather than one who fell into it.

The list also includes Puritan-style virtue names (Prudence Mortmain, Temperance Graves) and Slavic surnames built on words for grave and bone, because a necromancer who sounds ordinary at first is often scarier than one named Doomshadow.
