Fantasy Metal Name Generator

Fictional metals come in three recognisable shapes. The first is the invented single word, usually built on Latin or Greek metal endings: -ium (adamantium, vibranium), -ite (adamantite, kethrite) or -ine (ilmarine). These sound scholarly and age well because real elements follow the same pattern. The second is the compound, an English noun welded to steel, iron, silver or bronze: Bloodsteel, Voidiron, Moonsilver. Compounds tell the reader instantly what the metal does or where it came from. The third is the descriptive ore or alloy, Drakeheart Ore or Dwarven Greysteel, which reads like a crafting-menu entry and suits games.

The best fantasy metals carry an implied story. Mithril is light and rare and only the dwarves can mine it; cold iron hurts the fey; orichalcum belongs to a sunken civilisation. When you pick a name, decide what the metal is for, who controls the supply, and what it costs to work. A metal that is harder than steel but cannot be reforged, or one that only melts under dragonfire, generates plot on its own.
