Experiment Name Generator

Real experiments get named in a handful of recognizable ways. Physics collaborations favor bold acronyms and mythic single words (ATLAS, IceCube, DUNE, LIGO), often built backwards from a catchy word. Clinical trials do the same with a wink: SPRINT, JUPITER, RECOVERY, PARADIGM-HF, where the letters are made to fit and a hyphenated suffix names the disease. Long-running field studies are named for their place (Framingham, Hubbard Brook, Broadbalk, Park Grass), and space missions borrow gods and explorers (Apollo, Juno, Cassini, Voyager). Then there is the military tradition of two-word codenames chosen because they reveal nothing (Project Mogul, Operation Paperclip), which fiction has adopted wholesale.

This list mixes those registers deliberately. You'll find real landmark experiments (Michelson-Morley, Miller-Urey, the Stanford Prison Experiment) that are useful for citations and quizzes, real programmes and collaborations you can model your own naming on, and invented codenames in the same style (Project Halcyon, Protocol Winter Salt, MERIDIAN-AF, Cherenkov Ridge Array) that are ready to drop into a novel, RPG, or ARG.

If you're naming a real study, aim for something a reviewer can pronounce and a search engine can find, and check the acronym isn't already a well-known trial. If you're naming a fictional one, pick a codename that sounds bland enough to be believable and let the horror or wonder come from what the file contains.
