Elven Kingdom Name Generator

Elven kingdoms in fantasy are defined by age and by the land itself. Tolkien named most of his realms after their forests, rivers and rulers: Doriath is the fenced land of Thingol, Eregion is the land of holly, and Eryn Lasgalen means "wood of greenleaves." Later worlds followed suit. Forgotten Realms gives us Cormanthyr and Evermeet, Dragonlance has Qualinesti and Silvanesti, Warcraft has Quel'Thalas and Ashenvale, and Warhammer has Ulthuan and Athel Loren. Even the invented ones share a sound: soft l, r, n, th and s, open vowels, and endings like -ien, -ion, -esti, -mar and -dor.

The second big convention is the English title. Elves rule courts and thrones as often as kingdoms, so names like the Court of the Silver Antler, the Greenwood Throne, or the Realm of the Undying Wood are just as authentic as a single Elvish word. Season-based courts (Summer, Winter, Gloaming) suggest fey influence, while "High Kingdom" and "Elder Realm" suggest an old, proud high-elf civilization. Wood-elf realms favor tree and canopy words; coastal or sea-elf realms take harbor words like Lindon and Mithlond.

Use the list to pick a formal Elvish name for the realm and a plainer common-tongue name that humans and dwarves would use. That pairing, such as Nimrathiel known as the Greywood, is one of the quickest ways to make an elven kingdom feel like it has existed for thousands of years.
