Elven Forest Name Generator

Lothlórien, Mirkwood, Doriath and Fangorn from Middle-earth; Cormanthor, the High Forest and Wealdath from the Forgotten Realms; Ashenvale, Teldrassil and Eversong Woods from Warcraft; Valenwood and Grahtwood from The Elder Scrolls; Athel Loren from Warhammer; Brokilon from The Witcher; and Arlathan and the Brecilian Forest from Dragon Age. All of them appear in this generator alongside original names.

Use the real Sindarin building blocks. Taur or eryn for forest, nan for valley, dor for land, galad for light, ithil for the moon, elen or gil for star, laur for gold, nim for white, and glad or galadh for tree. Combine two of them with a soft consonant between (Taur Ithilien, Eryn Galenas, Nan Celebrin) and avoid hard k, x and z sounds, which Tolkien reserved for orcs and dwarves.

Use whichever language the point-of-view character would use. Elves and scholars use the elvish name; villagers, merchants and adventurers use a translated or folk name. Many authors give both, which also gives you a quick way to signal how ancient or how feared the place is.

The original names are free to use anywhere. The canon names from Middle-earth, Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls and similar settings belong to their publishers, so they are fine at your own table but should be replaced with originals in anything you publish or sell.
