Divergent Name Generator

Names in Divergent are deliberately ordinary. The series is set in a walled-off future Chicago, and Veronica Roth gave her characters everyday American first names and surnames (Beatrice Prior, Tobias Eaton, Christina, Will, Peter Hayes) so that the factions, not the names, do the world-building. What changes between factions is register. Abnegation families favour plain, modest, slightly old-fashioned names: Beatrice, Caleb, Susan, Robert, Andrew, Natalie, Marcus. Erudite names feel polished and precise (Jeanine Matthews, Cara, Fernando, Edward). Candor produces blunt, direct names like Jack Kang and Al, Amity leans warm and soft with Johanna Reyes, and Dauntless-born kids get short, punchy names such as Zeke, Uriah, Lynn, Shauna, Tori and Bud.

The other Divergent convention is the earned nickname. Initiates shed their old identity when they choose a faction, and Dauntless in particular renames people by what they have done: Tobias becomes Four for his four fears, Tris is briefly Six, and transfers from Abnegation are called Stiffs. Tris even shortens Beatrice herself the moment she jumps onto the train.

This list carries the canon cast from Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant and Four, then adds original full names written in each faction's register, plus a handful of Dauntless-style nicknames, so a new initiate, Factionless rebel or Bureau scientist fits alongside the originals.
