Generate a name for your own Aeldari craftworld: hyphenated names like Ain-Thirael and Kae-Loreth, flowing single names like Aesandril, names with an epithet such as Olvaneth the Sundered, plus a smaller share of corsair fleets, Exodite maiden worlds and warhosts.

About craftworld names

This page names craftworlds, the world-ships of the Aeldari, for players building a custom army or writing their own lore. If you want a name for a person, such as a farseer, an autarch or a ranger, use the Eldar name generator, which is linked on this page. Games Workshop's own craftworlds set the sound: Ulthwé, Biel-Tan, Iyanden, Saim-Hann, Alaitoc, Altansar, Il-Kaithe, Lugganath, Iybraesil and Yme-Loc are two or three flowing syllables, often split by a hyphen.

Most of the list follows that pattern with invented names: hyphenated pairs such as Ain-Thirael and Kae-Loreth, single names such as Aesandril and Olthenar, and a few with an apostrophe. Others carry an epithet in the way Ulthwé is called the Damned (Olvaneth the Sundered, Luthaniel the Unlit) or a short poetic title, as in Ain-Velaruth, called the Waning Star. Those titles are our own glosses, not translations from the Aeldari lexicon. Lost and small craftworlds get elegiac names like Aethenor That Was.

A smaller share is the wider Aeldari diaspora, and each of those entries says what it is: corsair and outcast fleets, Exodite maiden worlds, and warhosts a craftworld might field in the manner of Biel-Tan's Swordwind. Apart from the ten canon craftworlds named above, nothing here is established lore.

How to choose craftworld names

  • Say it aloud before you paint it on a banner. Craftworld names are meant to flow, and Vael-Ithar or Mae-Lothir should come out in one breath.
  • Treat the hyphen as a pause and not a join: each half should be sayable by itself, as in Zai-Thuun or Uth-Elanir.
  • Give the name an epithet once your army has a story. A craftworld that lost its seers might become the Unlit; one that never stops moving, the Far-Wandered.
  • Name the warhost as well as the craftworld. An army list reads better as The Ashwind Warhost of your craftworld than as the craftworld alone.
  • If you borrow a poetic title, present it as what the craftworld is called and not as a translation, because the setting's Aeldari language has its own published words.

Frequently asked questions

How are Aeldari craftworlds named?

The published craftworlds use two or three flowing syllables, often with a hyphen: Biel-Tan, Saim-Hann, Il-Kaithe and Yme-Loc, or single names like Iyanden and Alaitoc. The invented names here keep that sound, for example Shae-Kaenis, Thel-Yshan and Caelunath. Some add an epithet in the way Ulthwé is called the Damned.

Where can I find names for Aeldari characters?

On the Eldar name generator, which is linked from this page. It covers farseers, autarchs, exarchs, Drukhari archons and Harlequins. This page is only for craftworlds, fleets, maiden worlds and warhosts.

Which names on this list are canon?

Ten: Ulthwé, Biel-Tan, Iyanden, Saim-Hann, Alaitoc, Altansar, Il-Kaithe, Lugganath, Iybraesil and Yme-Loc. Every other name was invented for this page in the same sound, and the poetic titles attached to some of them are our own and not translations.

Can I use these names for corsairs or Exodites?

Yes. A smaller share of the list is corsair and outcast fleets such as Corsairs of the Sunless Tide, Exodite maiden worlds such as Maiden World Olthessa, and warhosts such as The Starfall Warhost. Each of those entries states what it is, so it will not be mistaken for a craftworld.
