Black metal names have a stricter aesthetic than almost any other genre. Stage names follow the same rules. Musicians trade legal names for personas such as Nocturno Culto, Fenriz, Abbath, Gaahl, and Ihsahn: usually one word, drawn from Norse myth, demonology, or invented from harsh consonant clusters. A convincing persona sounds like it could be a wolf, a weapon, or a forgotten god.
