Nu metal band names have a very specific look, forged between roughly 1994 and 2004. The genre favored single blunt words, often deliberately misspelled or spelled with a K: Korn, Staind, Adema, Skrape, Snot, Flaw, Endo, Coal Chamber. The vocabulary was body horror, suburbia, and malfunction: static, skin, numb, blister, chamber, machine. Rap-metal acts like Limp Bizkit and Crazy Town added playground-insult misspellings, and everything looked best in lowercase or in a chunky sans-serif logo.
