Bad Name Generator

A bad name is not the same as an ugly one. Ugly names sound unpleasant; bad names are the result of a decision somebody should not have made. The classic form is the unfortunate pun, where a perfectly ordinary first name and surname combine into something the owner will hear on every roll call for life: Anita Bath, Ben Dover, Phil McCracken, Barb Wyre. These are the names of prank calls, sitcom sign-in sheets and real news stories about parents who did not say the name out loud before signing the form.

The modern flavor is the try-hard spelling: Jaxxsyn, Paizleigh, Brayxtyn, Kaydynce. The name underneath is fine; the extra y's, x's and -leigh endings are what make a teacher sigh. Close behind are the redundant name (Robert Roberts, Thomas Thomas), the five-word epic (Tiberius Moonchild Hendrix-Pratt), the child named after a product (Kleenex Davis, Lexus Mercedes Benz), the initials nobody checked (Peter Ian Green) and the username that seemed cool at thirteen (xXx_DarkShadowSlayer_xXx).

This list rounds out with lazy pet names, placeholder character names like Bob the Protagonist and Mary Sue Perfect, and stage names like DJ Unemployed. Use them for comedy scripts, running gags, joke NPCs, fake forms in a story, or simply as a checklist of what to avoid when naming something real.
