Generate ACOTAR names in the style of Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses: canon characters and places from Feyre and Rhysand to Velaris and the Hewn City, plus hundreds of original High Fae, Illyrian and Archeron-style names for OCs, fanfiction and romantasy of your own.
About acotar names
Names in A Court of Thorns and Roses follow a few clear rules, and once you hear them you can invent a character who sounds like they belong in Prythian. High Fae and High Lords carry names with classical or Celtic bones and a sharp, speakable finish: Rhysand, Tamlin, Tarquin, Kallias, Helion, Beron. The Illyrian warriors are shorter and harder (Cassian, Azriel, Devlon, Enalius), while the Archeron sisters have plain, slightly old-fashioned human names (Feyre, Nesta, Elain) that mark them as outsiders among the fae. Surnames are rare and usually belong to noble houses such as Vanserra; most characters are known by a court, a title or a deed instead, like the Shadowsinger or the Lady of the Autumn Court.
This generator mixes three kinds of names. First, canon characters, creatures and places for quick reference, from Amarantha and the Suriel to Velaris, Windhaven and the Sangravah. Second, original names written to the same phonology, so an OC called Sereth, Ondraya or Thalion Raskovar will sit comfortably beside the canon cast. Third, court epithets and Irish and Welsh source names (Aoife, Pryderi, Rhiannon) of the kind Maas draws on. Use the canon entries for inspiration and the originals for fanfiction, roleplay, book-club personas or a romantasy world of your own.
Tips for choosing a name
- Decide where your character is from first. Night Court and Illyrian names are short and dark (Azriel, Vael, Roran); Spring and Summer names are lighter and more vowel-heavy (Tamlin, Tarquin, Cresseida); human names stay plain (Feyre, Graysen, Clare).
- Give a High Fae OC a court and an epithet rather than a surname: Lorcan of the Dawn Court or Ember of the Autumn Court sounds more Prythian than a family name.
- Keep the ending hard or sibilant so the name can be hissed or purred in dialogue; -and, -ian, -iel, -is and -eth endings are the sound of the series.
- Reserve canon surnames like Archeron and Vanserra for characters who are actually related to those families; a stranger with that name will confuse readers.
- For fanfiction or a published fae novel, use the original names here and treat the canon entries as reference only.
Frequently asked questions
What are the main ACOTAR character names?
The core cast is Feyre, Nesta and Elain Archeron, Rhysand, Tamlin, Lucien Vanserra, Cassian, Azriel, Morrigan (Mor) and Amren. Other key names include Amarantha, Tarquin, Helion, Kallias, Viviane, Thesan, Beron and Eris Vanserra, Jurian, Vassa, Ianthe, Gwyn, Emerie and the King of Hybern.
How do I make an ACOTAR OC name that sounds authentic?
Start from a Celtic, Welsh or Latin root, keep it to two or three syllables, and finish on a consonant or a soft -a. Sereth, Kaelis, Ondraya and Thalion all follow the pattern. Then attach a court, a title or an Illyrian camp instead of a surname: Kaelis of the Winter Court, Thalion of Windhaven.
What are the seven courts in ACOTAR?
Prythian has seven courts: the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter Courts (the seasonal courts) and the Dawn, Day and Night Courts (the solar courts). The Night Court also contains Velaris, the Court of Dreams, and the Hewn City, the Court of Nightmares.
Can I use these names in fanfiction or my own book?
The original names, titles and house names in this generator are free to use. Canon names and places from the series belong to Sarah J. Maas and are included as reference; they are fine for fanfiction but should be avoided in original published work.
