Generate World Eaters names for Warhammer 40k: harsh, short Legion names in the style of Khârn, Kargos Bloodspitter and Lotara Sarrin, plus epithets, Eightbound titles, Jakhal packs and warband names.

About World Eaters names

The World Eaters are the bluntest-sounding of the Traitor Legions, and their names reflect it. Where the Thousand Sons reach for Egypt and the Blood Angels for Renaissance Italy, the XII Legion's canon roster is short, hard and percussive: Khârn, Skane, Delvarus, Kargos, Vorias, Jochura, Lhorke, Gheer, Dreagher, Skoral. Angron's own Nucerian name, Angron Thal'kyr, and the Conqueror's mistress Lotara Sarrin show the two-part form the Legion uses when it bothers with a second name at all.

A convincing World Eaters name leans on K, G, R, TH and KH sounds, rarely runs past three syllables, and avoids anything soft or scholarly. Pre-Heresy War Hounds drawn from Terra and Bodt can carry a plainer Terran ring (Macer Varren, Argus Brond), while post-Heresy berzerkers pick up earned epithets in the Black Library style: Kargos Bloodspitter, Zhufor the Impaler, Kossolax the Foresworn. Titles do the rest of the work. Centurion and Captain fit the 30k Legion, while Master of Executions, Exalted Eightbound, Gorechosen and Jakhal belong to the modern Khorne-bound warbands.

This generator mixes all of those layers: bare Legion names, two-part names, name-plus-epithet, title-plus-name, and warband names such as the Red Butchers, the Devourers and the Skulltakers, so you can name a single Berzerker or an entire Eightbound host.

How to choose World Eaters names

  • Keep it short and hard. Canon World Eaters names are mostly one or two syllables built on K, G, R and KH sounds; if a name would suit an Eldar or a Thousand Son, cut it.
  • Use the era to pick the shape: plain names and Centurion or Captain ranks for Horus Heresy War Hounds, epithets and Khorne titles such as Master of Executions or Exalted Eightbound for 40k warbands.
  • Earn the epithet. Bloodspitter, the Impaler and the Foresworn all describe a deed or a state, so give your own berzerker a name that says what the Nails did to him rather than just sounding angry.
  • Name the pack around its leader. Eightbound and Jakhal units in the lore are remembered by who commands them, so a squad called Kharzun's Hounds needs only one strong name.
  • Avoid Tzeentchian, Nurgle and Slaaneshi vocabulary entirely; skulls, brass, chains, nails, blood and the number eight are the only symbols the Blood God's legion needs.

Frequently asked questions

What do World Eaters names usually sound like?

Short and harsh. The canon roster of Khârn, Skane, Delvarus, Kargos, Lhorke and Gheer is built on hard consonants with few syllables, and second names or epithets are added sparingly (Kargos Bloodspitter, Zhufor the Impaler, Lotara Sarrin).

Which of these names are canon and which are original?

Angron, Khârn, Lotara Sarrin, Lhorke, Gheer, Dreagher, Skoral, Vorias, Esca, Skane, Delvarus, Kargos Bloodspitter, Jochura, Surlak, Zhufor, Kossolax and Invocatus all appear in Black Library or Games Workshop material, as do warbands like the Red Butchers and Skulltakers. Everything else was written to match that style and is free to use.

Can I use these for Horus Heresy World Eaters as well as 40k?

Yes. Bare names and two-part names suit both eras, while Centurion and Captain ranks belong to the 30k Legion and titles such as Master of Executions, Exalted Eightbound, Gorechosen and Jakhal are 40k-specific. Pick the layer that matches your army.

What is an Eightbound, and how should one be named?

Eightbound are berzerkers who have bound a Khornate daemon into themselves, each usually one of eight in a pack. They are best given a bare name plus a violent epithet (Wrakhan the Brazen, Durgon Widowmaker) or simply referred to by the Exalted Eightbound who leads them.
